Today I logged into eve online after a short break because I was playing city of villains for the past few weeks (great game btw) and I noticed this news message:

Planning a large fleet fight? Please let us know
reported by: CCP Fallout | 2008.12.04 13:26:27

For some time now, we have been monitoring requests sent via stuck petition to GM’s for notifications of incoming fleet battles. Where possible, we have been placing these systems on high powered blades to ensure you get the best server performance possible in your fleet fight.

To reduce load on the GM’s and to get these requests where they need to go as quickly as possible, we now have a system for you to notify our virtual world operations team of these fights directly.

If you are planning to have a large fleet engagement, please tell us using the following form: http://myeve.eve-online.com/fleetfightnotification.asp

Rules

• Abuse of this system will NOT be tolerated.
• All notifications are linked to your user account and we will not put up with any shenanigans.
• Only corporation directors are able to send notifications.
• Please notify us only if you expect the operation to exceed 300 pilots in the engagement (ie. 150 vs 150).
• Notifications must be at least 24h in advance, as we re-map these systems during downtime.
• These notifications go to Virtual World Operations (the Tranquility admin team), Internal Affairs and Lead Game Masters.

Lol, it seems that if you are planning to have a large fleet engagement you need to notify the Virtual World Operations atleast 24h before the actual fight or else you won’t get the best performance (lag, etc) I lol’d at this message.

Yup, the expected downtime will take a day or so but after that I can’t wait to see the new features and ofcourse the new ship called “orca”.

EVE Online is currently unavailable as we deploy our latest free expansion, EVE Online: Quantum Rise. This update process also requires us to close down parts of our site, but we have set up this page to provide you with news and information until the game server, website and forums are available again. While you’re waiting, we invite you to see what Quantum Rise will bring, check out the features page, and make sure you don’t miss the trailer linked on the right.

So, i was playing eve online today and it lagged quite a bit + random disconnects, turned out that there’s a network issue so the servers are down now for mainenance.. hate it when it happens. There seems to be a lot of problems with the eve online servers lately and this just proves that they still have issues with it. It’s a good thing that they are working on it so let’s hope it’s back online soon so we can pew pew again.

Quoted from CCP Navigator

Play eve online using http-tunneling

For those that can’t play eve using the normal way (blocked ports or using a crappy ISP such as ziggo) you can try http-tunneling as an alternative way to play eve online.

From wikpedia:

HTTP Tunneling is a technique by which communications performed using various network protocols are encapsulated using the HTTP protocol, the network protocols in question usually belonging to the TCP/IP family of protocols. The HTTP protocol therefore acts as a wrapper for a covert channel that the network protocol being tunneled uses to communicate.

The HTTP stream with its covert channel is termed an HTTP Tunnel.

HTTP Tunnel software consists of client-server HTTP Tunneling applications that integrate with existing application software, permitting them to be used in conditions of restricted network connectivity including firewalled networks, networks behind proxy servers, and NATs.

To play eve online using http-tunneling u need to download two applications, this one and sockscap v2. Install it and configure the software by reading the eve online setup guide here.

The only slightly negative comment that i want to point out is that the http-tunneling software is a trial/demo and it disconnects you after 10minutes or so. You need to pay $4.99/mo or more (depending which subscription plan you choose) to make full advantage of this software but it’s well worth it.

Ghost Training to be Disabled on eve online

Ghost training is a way to train even when you did not have an active account. It saves subscription money while stil being able to train your skills. Great right? Well, think again, ccp disabled it 2 days ago and called it a bug.

Here’s a quote from ccp Torfi Frans Olafsson, Senior Producer of EVE Online.

Now I’m not saying that if me personally would be at the other end of this Dev Blog I wouldn’t be annoyed by CCP’s actions. We are gamers. We game the system. We figure out how to maximize our returns. There’s no surprise that people have done this for the simple fact that it wasn’t banned per se and also for the fact that it was possible. But recently we have seen a surge in this behavior in a way that we were essentially supporting and maintaining a large number of customers that weren’t paying us regular subscriptions. That’s not fair towards CCP as a service provider and it’s not fair towards other players that pay a subscription but don’t make use of this bug.

Now a single customer that doesn’t log into the servers may not weigh heavily on our database infrastructure, just as a single snowflake isn’t that heavy, hardly a measurable quantity. But it’s hard not to notice an avalanche if it hits you. And that’s what was starting to happen in our database.

Woah!, take a look at the fittings here

Dread Guristas Invulnerability Field
Dread Guristas Shield Boost Amplifier
X-Large C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I
Gist A-Type Photon Scattering Field
Domination Invulnerability Field
Domination Ballistic Control System

That fit is worth atleast 1 billion isk. I’m not sure why he ( Vitak Zerath ) fitted a tech 1 shield booster on it.. ( X-Large C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I ) but what a way dumb to lose a faction/deadspace fitted ship.

Hurray for Amarr!

EVE System > Channel MOTD: Welcome to the Live Dev Blog channel

Now at 20.00 we will host a Live Dev Blog on Speed Balancing.
CCP Mindstar will be joined by Herr Doctor CCP Fendahl and Archbishop Desmond CCP Nozh to discuss current state of affairs and
various solutions in design.
As usual we have a discussion thread on the forums where you can ask questions and make suggestions to the developers.

So, today I was listening to the live dev chat in the Eve Online “Live dev blog” channel about the speed balancing stuff. While the live chat was great and all, I also joined an ongoing fleet to kill some minnies. I fitted my vexor and warped to the kourmonen gate in kamela.. well, guess what? That was a really bad decision that i made! There were some wartargets that were camping the gate and they managed to scramble and web me so that i couldn’t get back to the gate in time to jump back to where i came from. I couldn’t do much besides watching how they melted my shields, armor and eventually my hull. Boom hullshot? My vexor sure cried like a baby when he popped.

They also managed to pod me and I lost my +3/+4’s and an armor repair + amount bonus as well as a velocity hardwire. Oh well, i guess this was a bad day for my vexor.

RIP vexor, and thanks for flying with me.

Anyway, after i got podded I bought a new vexor and rejoined the fleet but i didn’t manage to kill a single minmatar and i hope that i can do some pew pew tomorrow to avenge my destroyed ship =(

I found a link to a vexor setup here and posted it down below. Have fun with your vexor, it’s a nice ship to fly.

Vexor

The Vexor is a strong combat ship that is also geared to operate in a variety of other roles. The Vexor is especially useful for surveying in potentially hostile sectors as it can stay on duty for a very long time before having to return to base. Furthermore, it is well capable of defending itself against even concentrated attacks.

Empyrean Age 1.1.1 Update

CRITICAL
A new autopilot feature has been added: avoid system. This will allow you to set systems, constellations or even entire regions to be ignored by your autopilot. By default, all autopilots will avoid Jita unless you configure it otherwise.
World Shaping: 3 new jumps have been added around Jita:
- Muvolailen - Maurasi
- Maurasi - Perimeter
- Veisto - Sarekuwa
Dynamic System Cap: We have implemented a system that allows us to set a maximum number of players that are allowed into a given solarsystem. At this time, only Jita has this cap set. The cap can be changed during runtime, and we will be adjusting it in the coming days as we make software improvements and add more hardware to Jita.
An Auto-Move feature has been added to the login process. If you are trying to log into a system that currently has more people in it than the dynamic cap (see above), you will be given the option of moving yourself to a neighbouring system.
