im-a-wiinner wrote a FAQ about Dissidia: Final Fantasy, you can read the faq here or the quotes below. Must have taken quite some time to compile the stuff together, but i’m glad someone did it! Another guide can be read here
This is as full a guide as can be gotten with knowledge from the Dissidia board. I have searched through old topics for days to gather all his information. Information here was mostly written by me with some sections gathered by board users. There are also a few sections I do not have credits for, if you want your name mentioned post after I’m done. Lastly, obviously don’t post until I’m done as I’m hoping to make this into a sticky. Names in parenthese are people from whom I’ve gotten some information. EJ refers to EddieJayco aka Me and occurs a lot because a lot of this faq was written by me <@;) .
-Unlockables- (Various)After you complete the 10 main characters stories you unlock “Shade Impulse” which is a 4 chapter sequence where you fight all the villians and then chaos, basically the ending of the main story. Then you get 3 new modes.
You unlock Chaos as a CPU by completing “Inward Chaos” story (****ing hard, basically level 9s with 9999 HP, and levels in the 100s, you end up fighting all 23 characters including chaos at the end of this mode)
You get Shantoto by completing “Distant Glory (Hero mode)” where you fight all the heros over the course of 5 parts and Shantoto at the end.
You get Gabaranth by completing “Distant Glory (Villian Mode)” Which is the same as Shantoto’s but with villians and gabaranth at the end.
-AP- (EJ)
I’ve found the easiest way to obtain AP is to complete an “AP Chance” on a CPU opponent in VS Mode.
AP Chances are, to my knowledge, completed by performing the amount of damage in an HP attack it shows you at the start of the round. As your character does his intro it will say at the bottom “Blah Blah *random number* Blah Blah”. It’s generally under 2000 for me. I get way over 2300 with my first combo and break thus allowing me to complete the AP chance right away.
With skills equipped three times, this allows you to get a total of 9 AP for that skill.After obtaining a certain amount of AP a skill is Mastered (an M next to it) and requires less CP to equip.
-Rosetta Stone- (Various) (EJ)
Finish a chapter with more than 7 DP and you will sometimes get a Rosetta Stone. Rosetta Stones are not for learning new languages but instead add an extra accessory slot.
To add the actual extra accessory slot you must navigate to the ETC. tab in the PP shop and trade the Rosetta Stone for the first option.
It appears Rosetta Stones can also be obtained from final boss battles and getting them from Blue chests on subsequent playthroughs.
-Replay- (Lord Raviel)
Once you beat 2 stories you get the ability to save replays by pressing Square after battles.
To view and export the replays go to the Museum which is the 2nd of the 4 options at the bottom of the main menu, Select the bottom option on the museum which is the replay menu and the menu’s structure is like this.
Replay Menu
-Watch Replay
-Delete Replay
-Output to Video
—Low Quality
—Medium Quality
—High QualityVideos are Output to a Dissidia folder inside the Video folder on the memory stick so you can watch them on the PSP or transfer them to a PC.
-Calendar- (oOXBladeXOo)
You can change your PSP’s date to get the in-game calendar to change as well. Do this to acquire bonuses when you want, this can lead to EXP x 1.5, AP + 2 per battle, Gil x 1.5, PP + 30 per battle. These bonuses can only be gotten by buying them from the PP shop.
In the MAIN MENU, press the Square button and a calendar will come out. It goes according to the date set in your PSP and there will be bonuses on specific dates. The date you chose at the start of the game will have a Special Bonus to it depending on what level your calendar stuff is at. There are PP, EXP, GIL & AP bonuses. Your weekly Special Bonus comes once per week with all the bonuses included. Buying calendar stuff in the PP store makes the bonuses go higher.
-Summons- (theglow) (EJ)
After completing Cecil’s story I got the auto-Carbuncle summon. I did it again and got a manual Carbuncle. Pressing R+O activates the manual summon.
You do not acquire summons at the end of a chapter but rather get them along the way from small Red Orbs gotten through chests (usually blue).
After activating a summon a small bar will appear next to your brave points, this determines how much time the summon will be in use or how many uses the summon has left.
Once you have used all blue bars the summon will need time to recharge. It is recommended to change summons if this occurs until the blue bars are recharged.
-Ability Menu- (dsvw56)
-Attacks
—-Brave Attacks
—-HP Attacks
-Abilities
—-Action Abilities
—-Support Abilities
—-Extra Abilities
-Restore Default
-Unequip All
-List all Abilities-Higher Lv CPUs- (EJ)
In the PP shop purchase, under System, the “Lv (CPU)/LvCAP+10″ ad above to raise the limit of the level inquick battle mode by that amount.
Example: I’m using Zidane, Lv 35 and I buy the LvCAP+10 upgrade. I can now fight against a level 45 Cecil.
-Equipment- (EJ)
Before a fight, you may notice a list of equipment shown to you. You do not get to choose a piece of equipment rather this is the equipment that your ennemy has equipped. Base stats equal your own stats and the total stats are those of your ennemy after adding or subtracting HP, brave and other data. If the ennemy is a boss he will usually have equipment that makes him much stronger than you, if owever he is a weaker clone he will have equipment that makes him weaker. THe accessory page is the list of accessories the ennemy has equipped and the Battle Rise page includes information on items you can obtain during he course of the battle. I am not sure but from personal experience it would appear that rings with break on them can be gotten after “breaking” you opponent’s brave points. Not too sure about the others and obviously the percentage is the chance you have of getting the item. Higher % means higher chance of obtaining that accessory.
-Quick Gil- (theglow)
The amount of gil you can get from CPU fights increases as their level does however it appears they do not increase with higher CPU level. Experience might be affected in the same way but this is not sure.
-Dashing- (Unknown_PC)
Air Dash (lv 8 ) and Air Dash R (lv 18) allows you to dash toward or away from the opponent respectively by pressing triangle while you’re on map objects (climbing wall, grinding rails, etc). The Free Air Dash from lv 12 allows you to dash toward the opponent at anywhere/anytime by pressing R + Triangle.
-Condition Accessories- (Unknown_PC)
Condition accessories raise the effects of your other accessories by 1.2x, 1.5, 2x under certain conditions. There are simply too many conditions to list, ranging from map destruction, while in air/ground, used summon or not, HP/EX-gauge conditions, break mode, etc.
-Goblets/Ether- (Various) (EJ)
You will notice goblets of ether on the map once in a while, after using up a skill these goblets will recover the skill used. Use them! Notice however that they will use up a DP to activate.
-Story Mode- (EJ)
There are only hero story modes. In other words there is no story mode for the villains.

-Menu Translations- (Many thanks to DragonKnightv2)

-DP Chances- (dexter1984)
BTW the “Charge into map” is believed to refer to you having to push your opponent into the wall however this is not yet confirmed.
-Locking on to Ex-Core- (EJ)
There will be a skill which allows you to use the L trigger to Lock-On to Ex-Cores.
-More HP Attacks/Combo- (EJ)
After Mastering your basic circle attacks a new set of square attacks will appear as though they branch off of the circle attakcs. What you must do is first use the circle attack the square attack is equipped and then immediately follow that up by pressing square while still in the air or on the ground.
-CP Bar- (EJ)
There are green and blue parts to this bar. Green corresponds to your equipped attacks and blue indicates the amount of CP used by your skills (Action, Support, and Extra)
-CPU Fighting Styles- (_KAOS)
The 9 CPU fighting styles are:
1 = Random
2 = Strategic
3 = Brave/Courageous
4 = Calamitous I guess, a bit tough to translate
5 = Cautious
6 = Calm
7 = Desperate/Extreme
8 = Gentle/Considerate
9 = Offensive/Berserk/Onslaught-like-Map Menu-
-Chocobo Rewards- (oOXBladeXOo)
By pressing R button while you are in the character customize screen and it will give you access to 3 options . These 3 options can affect the Chocobo screen you see also on your character customize screen .
By choosing the 1st option, after 20 battles you get an accessory called ‘ Chocobo Feather ‘ (?) +20% EXP & 30% Chance of breaking .
By choosing the 2nd option, after 40 battles you will get an accessory which I do not know yet lol but its +50% EXP & 30% chance of breaking . ( I’m not quite sure on this yet , hope someone can clarify )
By choosing the 3rd option , after 60 battles you will get an accessory called ‘ Chocobo Tail ‘ . +100% EXP and 30% chance of breaking .
By breaking I mean that if you equip them for battle, it will give you bonus to your exp but has a 30% of being lost FOREVER.
-Yellow Tiles- (EJ)
The Yellow Tiles on the map will disappear after your first play-through. More specifically, after getting a total of 600 Story Points (those points at the end of a chapter) a special summon is acquired which removes the yellow tiles present in that present character’s story mode.
-Grinding- (CervantesDeLeon)
I found some pretty efficient levelling methods, firstly, prioritise purchasing all of the calender bonuses, and be sure to get the PP ones first. Then grab as many max CPU level cap upgrades as you can. After that, make sure your PSP is set to your Special Day, and hit up the free battle mode. It helps to have Exdeath unlocked, since he’s massively predictable, basically play runaround, as soon as he uses any of his moves you get a free HP attack basically, especially that teleport he’s so fond of. You’ll be getting characters with fast HP attacks up to 100 in a matter fo a couple of hours like this, Squall and Jecht both have air HP attacks which are fast and homing, ideal for Exdeath grinding.
-Chocobo- (EJ)
When the chocobo appears during the loading screen after a fight this means that you have either gotten a new item or you will be getting an EXP multiplier during your next battle.
-Ultimate Equipment- (CervantesDeLeon, BTW Great job for this!)
After reaching level 100 with a character, you may be shocked at the sheer power gap between you and the CPU level 100 fighters. Do not despair, you can reach their lofty heights.
So far, here are my findings with regards to the very best equipment;
You will not find the top notch goods in the shop at first. A CPU 100 character will carry equipment which ranges from level 92-99. You must first be lucky enough to wrest a piece of this from their selfish claws, which I did at first completely by accident grinding level 100 Exdeaths in free battle mode. Equipment other than weapons seems to drop a little more frequently, and is locked to a few characters (eg. a pair of lvl 99 gloves which dropped from Exdeath was equippable to 5 or so characters), the high level weapons are character specific.
I’ve been concentrating on the weapons so far, since I got lucky and scored a Level 92 weapon for Jecht, who happens to be my main. As you may already know, gaining certain pieces of equipment opens up a refinement option in the shop (the ones which display TRADE), where you must offer up a piece of equipment, a number of accessories and some gil in order to garner a superior piece of equipment. The level 92 J specific weapon opened up a refinement option for a level 100 J specific weapon, requiring the original weapon and 5 each of 2 different accessories, seemingly rare ones since I only have one of one type, and none of the other. This thing seems worth it though, packing BRV+81 ATK+68,+40% in something to do with BRV and +15% to an unidentified stat.
I imagine it’s possible to “trade upgrade” all the way up the chain, but for us non-Japanese speakers it’s probably easier to grind and hope for a drop, leaving you only the final stage to upgrade.
Also, level 100 opens up two options in the etc. section of the shop, the bottom one is a unique trade in of an accessory which is rare, and I’m not sure what bonus it grants you. The top option in etc. allows you to trade in the same item for an extra accessory slot, explaining how the high level CPU opponents get so many slots. I believe equipment which has what appears to be a small grid visible next to its stats may increase slots, but as I only have one of these pieces, packing a lvl 100 requirement for pretty much the only characters I don’t have up to 100 yet, I haven’t been able to check.
Also at 100, be sure to equip one of the 3 Extra Abilities which are unlocked, top one seems to trade in EXP gained in a battle for HP, middle one powers up your limit, bottom one charges your EX guage.
Voila it is done, you can now post as you wish!
