What do you get when R&B, hip hop, soca Û and reggae are mixed together? The answer: NYpoleon. Born in Trinidad, then Û moving to New Jersey as a teenager, this up and coming R&B singer is Û influenced by a wide range of artists. These include Luther Vandross, Michael Û Jackson, Boyz II Men, Bob Marley and The Notorious BIG. ?I love R&B, but I Û was also influenced by Caribbean music, so it only made sense for me to Û incorporate all these elements into my sound?, says NYpoleon. It is this Û blend of genres that allow NYpoleon to truly stand out from his peers. He has Û been singing and performing music since age 6 and led his church choir as a Û teenager in Trinidad, becoming known as a dynamic performer and actor. Û Growing up, NYpoleon used music as a relief when faced with harsh challenges. Û This also explains why his songs are so real because they all express his Û true feelings and experiences. Û Û NYpoleon is currently promoting his debut album ?The Warm Up? which is being Û distributed nationally by the well respected independent distributor giant Û Select-O-Hits. ?I called it ?The Warm Up? because I?m still growing as an Û artist. Every song that I write is better than the last one?, says NYpoleon. Û ?The Warm Up? has been a huge success at college radio, being the most added Û on the CMJ Hip Hop Adds Chart in August. It was added to over 150 radio Û stations in the US and Canada so far! A fine mix of club bangers, ballads and Û mid-tempo tunes, the album also received positive reviews from a number of Û publications, including The Essex Journal (NJ), URB Magazine, First Coast Û News (Jacksonville, Fl) and Hot Indie News. His heartfelt ballad ?Always be Û Around? and club banger ?Pimp-a-fyin are legitimate hits, with the music Û video for ?Always be Around? receiving over ½ million views on youtube in its Û first 3 weeks. NYpoleon is currently planning a regional tour to promote the Û album. Û Û NYpoleon has also faced with a lot of challenges in his life, from his Û childhood in Trinidad where he saw many of his friends killed or locked up, Û to surviving an almost fatal fall head first, which left him hospitalized and Û in critical condition. Although still mentally scarred from these and other Û experiences, he would later physically recover with a new purpose to life. Û ?After being through all I?ve been through, it?s easy to have a negative Û perspective of life. But I now believe my unfortunate experiences happened Û for a reason, and that is for me to share my story with the world. My music Û is my therapy. It heals the wounds and my fans feel my pain. This album is that keep-sake. With the advent of technology; geographical barriers fade and perspective can become lost in the mainstream global market. We haven't tried to follow trends but rather have strived to set them, and in the process we have drawn influences from jazz, reggae, singer songwriter & disco, but with the common thread throughout being truly Nesian. A lot of bands say there's something on their album for everyone and for us this is true. Elevator Musiq is the Chris Cairns of albums, the all rounder with style in our unashamedly bias opinion. If this album were a super hero you would have to take all the powers from the x-men and fantastic 4 plus superman (minus the undies) to start to get a picture of just how super it is. Creating this album has reportedly raised the IQ levels of all Nesian Mystik so imagine what it could do in the right hands.
