Phase II dead?

Phase II was all about (rare) releases in the music scene blogged by D-don and other Phase II members.

Phase II started out as a small but close group on our forums and soon many members would follow and grew out to a pretty known group of people that posted anything music related. At it peaks there were even people signing up on the forums only to join Phase II! I even remember that there was someone that even made a track about Phase II. Those were the great time..

But unfortuneatly all good things end, and so our main Phase II bloggers/forum poster hasn’t blogged nor posted on the forums for quite some time and I believe the Phase II community is becoming pretty inactive (you might even call it “dead”) as it stands now although all the posts are still on the forums (I’m guessing around 6000/8000+ of the posts were made by Phase II members)

D-don’s last blog dated on 2007/10/25 and it was this post: Engineeringserver.com/blog/2007/10/25/lyfe_jennings-cops_up-promo_cds-2007-xxl/

For more Phase II blogposts click here.

I talked to D-don recently and he said that he was busy with all sorts of things but he also told me that he will blog when he has the time to do so, so i’m looking forward to it to see some of his posts here again.

Until then, you may consider Phase II official closed.

HappyFace

Phun - 2D physics sandbox

Looking for a fun 2D physics application for the creative mind? Look no further because Phun is a pretty cool application that can be used to create all sorts of objects that can interact with eachother such as a miniature car that moves and bumps on another object or a slingshot based on physics.

Phun is a Master of Science Theises by Computing Science student Emil Ernerfeldt for supervisor Kenneth Bodin at VRLab, Umeå University. The solver is based on work by Claude Lacoursière

Phun is meant to be a playground where people can be creative. It can also be used as an educational tool to learn about physics concepts such as restitution and friction.

Phun was coded in C++ using OpenGL, GLEW, SDL (for window management), SDL_image (for reading images) and boost, including boost_filesystem. Everything was coded by me, including the physics engine and user interface.

Not convinced? Check this awesome video with Phun in action:

(awesome music, anyone know there to get it? :p )

Android for mobile devices

Nope it’s not this guy from dragon ball Z/GT:

But rather than that it’s a platform for mobile devices created by the mighty Google

The Android platform is a software stack for mobile devices including an operating system, middleware and key applications. Developers can create applications for the platform using the Android SDK. Applications are written using the Java programming language and run on Dalvik, a custom virtual machine designed for embedded use which runs on top of a Linux kernel.

I haven’t played a lot with the Android SDK but it looks nice, demo’s and sourcecodes can be found here:

I’m not sure whats worse, spending hours to solve one nitpicking compile error or be this guy:

Either way, it both sucks!

I remember reading this book a while ago called “Java puzzlers” and so far as i know this is the video version of it with detailed explanation and more.

Recommended to watch (or read) if you want to learn more about Java programming traps & pitfalls. Some of the problems were not so easy to solve and took me quite some time to solve them. Maybe you will do better than me?
( don’t cheat ;) )

If you happen to find more of these Java puzzler videos let me know, I like to watch and solve them!

How not to get help

This guy: livinseoul made a topic about a classpath problem:

Java and the CLASSPATH - AGHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I am having a nightmare trying to connect to a package that I created in a directory structure something like this:
C:\aaa\bbb\ccc\ddd\mypackage So I tried a simple test with the classic hello world.
I created a package called world and a class called HelloWorld.
I put the package into C:\world and set the classpath like this: set classpath=C:\world;
Then I tried to execute it - ERROR
C:\world>java world.HelloWorld
Exception in thread “main” java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: world/He
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: world.HelloWorld BLAH BLAH BLAH

So far so good but when AikmanAgain asked him for more info he got pissed for some reason and made this reply:

Well listen Buddy if you knew enough about java you would know I was saying no class found. I was trying to be caring and save space on this forum by posting every little detail.

but here you go tool
Exception in thread “main” java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: world/HelloWorld
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: world.HelloWorld
at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source)
at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)
at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source)
at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(Unknown Source)

The rest of the replies contains a lot of flaming but it’s too entertaining to stop reading. I even bet that you will laugh while reading that topic. ;)

[Update]
It appears that he created another account and posted his “problem” again here

Less coding more gaming?

To make my blog more appealing to the general public (yes you there) i’ll be blogging about other subjects such as games because I know that a great percentage of my visitors do not only like to code but also like to game.

That said, I haven’t played any games recently but i’ll try to make a blogpost about games every once in a while and hope you will enjoy it. For starters here’s a fun vid of red alert 1:
